COMMUNITY GARDEN

The Villa Heights Community Garden was established in April 2014, thanks to the vision, dedication, and sweat equity of community members, along with a generous matching grant from the City of Charlotte’s Neighborhood & Business Services. The garden is located in beautiful Cordelia Park just below the playground. You can easily find it by looking down the hill to the brightly painted shed.

The garden was created with the vision of getting fresh produce in the hands of Villa Heights community members. It was also designed as a space for neighbors to come together, work together, and grow a better sense of community.

The community garden now has 11 plots that neighbors can sign up for to have your own person garden space for the season. The plots are available on a first come first serve basis, and can be retained on a year over year basis. Please contact the Community Garden Committee Chair for additional details about how you can get a plot for the upcoming growing season.

CORDELIA PARK

Villa Heights is home to the beautiful Cordelia Park. Cordelia Park is a 20 acre city park that contains our community garden, a new playground, shelter and events pavilion, a swimming pool and sprayground, the Cross Charlotte Trail, a basketball court, and a lot of open green space! Plus, you can catch one of the best views of the Charlotte skyline!

PROGRESS PARK

Progress Park, located at the corner of Parkwood Ave and Umstead Drive, welcomes visitors with colorful tiled pillars at each entrance. The pillars were a collaboration with The Arts & Science Council and celebrates the art of children from Optimist Park, Villa Heights and Belmont. The park, which is just over a half an acre, has a newly renovated playground and a pavilion with picnic tables making a great spot for picnics and small gatherings!

CROSS CHARLOTTE TRAIL

Villa Heights is fortunate to have the Cross Charlotte Trail (XCLT) going through Cordelia Park and connected to the Little Sugar Greek Greenway. The full CCT is a 26 mile greenway that stretches from the City of Pineville through Uptown Charlotte and up to the UNC Charlotte campus.  This allows our residents to travel to and from our neighborhood with ease and opens our wonderful neighborhood to residents around the city.  The entire trail is an ongoing project but our section in Cordelia is now complete!

You can find more information about the Cross Charlotte Trail at its city webpage.
